Did you know?
Americans throw away 100 billion plastic bags annually.

All that waste can be eliminated by switching to reusable bags.

Sew-A-Bag sewing circles create unique, reusable shopping totes, produce, lunch, bread, and wine bags, plus cutlery pouches from donated second-hand fabrics. We replace plastic and paper bags, while learning about climate change, sustainable practices and civic engagement.

Through the sales of our bags we raise funds to pay unemployed at-risk women to sew reusable bags from home, helping them make ends meet – with the long term goal of creating their own in-person or virtual self-sustaining sewing circles.

Your purchases give life to our Sew-A-Bag initiatives to provide financial stability to women in our community as they start their own self-sustaining sewing circles with the necessary equipment and materials.

Your Sew-a-Bag and “Smiling Underneath” face mask show that you are not just switching to a more sustainable way of living, you’re also empowering women in high need areas.

The Story of
The Sew-A-Bag Label

We created a label to express our appreciation in thanks and praise to every member of our Sew-A-Bag team.
To the volunteers who iron, cut, sew, to the donors who give us their beautiful second-hand fabrics, and to the women creating their own self-sustaining sewing circles: Thank you!

  • Each Sew-A-Bag has an exterior, highly visible AZWC Label Pocket
  • Everyone participating in the making of the bags or donating the fabrics is credited on the label pocket
  • Each label is numbered to track each bag’s carbon footprint impact
  • Each label pocket is made out of second-hand fabrics and printed locally
